It might make sense that extreme measures would yield quick results. Unfortunately that is not the case. If you want to lose weight quickly and try to cut your calories past 500 below maintenance then this is what will happen.

Your body goes into starvation mode

This means the body is not getting sufficient calories. So it thinks it’s starving. In order to survive and try to match your energy expenditure. Your body will actually start to preserve fat.

Meaning the fat burning mechanism is actually put to a standstill in order for the body to preserve itself.

Your body will be burning calories as slowly as possible to conserve its energy stores.

By going too low it simply is not effective and most importantly is not sustainable. So it is important to eat. I would rather you eat a hot pocket late at night to ensure you’re closer to your maintenance than to skip that and be underfed.

Of course focus on getting high quality nutrition. The benefits of quality food are better function, better skin, nails, and hair. However, it’s ok to eat food that isn’t deemed as natural or healthy from time to time. Just focus on doing your best. Sustainability over all.

You could potentially gain weight

Not from being in a high caloric deficit itself. It’s what comes with being frustrated from not seeing results after going extreme. Then binge eating, because your body will be craving lots of food. Your will power diminishes and now to get results you have to be extra diligent spending twice the time getting the results you want. When if you had just started with the proper nutrition right away you would have achieved your goals much faster.
